Stay Healthy This Season

Its that time of year againbe prepared. You may not give much thought to immune health unless you're feeling run down. But keeping your immune system strong is nothing to sneeze at. In fact, it can be a powerful defense for good health all year long. Here are 2 simple strategies from Metagenics:

"C" to your health. In a clinical study, Ultra Potent-C® has shown superior activity when compared to plain ascorbic acid. Ultra Potent-C demonstrated enhanced natural killer (NK) cell activity, reflecting strong immune support potential. In fact, Ultra Potent-C enhanced NK cell activity within 4 hours, whereas the plain ascorbic acid group actually showed a depression in NK cell activity in this time period. Ultra Potent-C also demonstrated superior bioavailability, with an 18% to 25% greater uptake of vitamin C in white blood cells compared to plain ascorbic acid.1

Get to the core. Try ImmuCore® for a novel combination of 3 recommended immune support approaches. This advanced formula combines clinically demonstrated Ultra Potent-C, essential zinc, and a special blend of 7 health-enhancing mushroom extracts to help enhance functions of macrophages, natural killer cells, and T cell subsets. Plus, it provides selenium and oleanolic acid2 additional immune support nutrients. Its multidimensional support in one convenient formula thats ideal for a timely response or daily long-term use.*

Rethink Your Daily Multivitamin/Mineral

2012-01-10

Get more than just vitamins and minerals. Plant-based foods including fruits, vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds, herbs, spices, oils, and grains provide more than macronutrients (protein, fats, and carbohydrates/fiber) and micronutrients (vitamins and minerals). Plants are also a source of thousands of bioactive secondary metabolites called phytonutrients that are known to support the body in multiple ways. Eating plans that include a number of plant foods rich in phytonutrients, like the traditional Mediterranean diet, are associated with increased health and longevity.

Non-essential, but extremely beneficial. There are no established daily intake requirements (yet), but scientists continue to uncover the many benefits of phytonutrients such as resveratrol, lutein, lycopene, citrus bioflavonoids, polyphenols, and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG). These individual phytonutrients may target different health systems, and they may also complement each other to support the body in general ways like protecting cells from oxidative stress that can increase with age, pollutants, unhealthy lifestyle habits, and even certain processes with the body itself. That's why health experts recommend eating a minimum of five daily servings of a wide variety of colorful, plant-based foods to supply essential nutrients (proteins, fats, carbohydrates/fiber, vitamins, minerals) plus a spectrum of valuable phytonutrients.

Where most multivitamin/minerals fall short. Scientific opinion now suggests that a multi with only "essential" nutrients does not address the benefits of a daily intake of important phytonutrients. But merely adding a few plant extracts or phytonutrients at clinically insignificant levels may not be the answer either. But there is a brave new, scientifically tested combination of phytonutrients and essential nutrients that may just change everything.

Get smart about daily phytonutrients. Schedule an appointment for a Complimentary LifeStyle Assessment to learn more about daily supplementation with a smart combination of phytonutrients, vitamins, and minerals that provides a completely new approach to daily nutrition to complement even the healthiest of diets. The Most Important Fruits and Vegetables to Buy

Sizes

Do you ever wonder which fruits and vegetables are the most important to buy organically? Here is an interesting article that discusses just that: The Most Important Fruits and Vegetables to Buy

Ever notice that waxy residue on the fruit (especially the apples!) and vegetables you buy at the supermarket? Do you wonder how much dirt and grime you ingest along with the produce you eat? Well, here’s some good news: Sunrider has the natural, safe “solution” to wash away your worries. For peace of mind and cleaner, brighter, better-tasting produce, use SunSmile® Fruit & Vegetable Rinse—every household can use it as part of a healthy lifestyle.

Here is what others have said:

“SunSmile® Fruit & Vegetable Rinse is an amazing product. Many air pollutants rest on the outer layers of produce and are not easily removed in the local markets. Running tap water over the produce may not fully clean the foods. SunSmile® Fruit & Vegetable Rinse is very effective. Removing debris really enhances the taste of the food!”
- R. Ricardo

“I was instantly convinced that SunSmile® Fruit & Vegetable Rinse really works since the first time I used it. I was astonished when I saw how much dirt and waxy coating were removed from some apples I had briefly soaked in SunSmile® Fruit & Vegetable Rinse, even after I had washed them with tap water. Since then, I don’t hesitate in using it. It gives me peace of mind knowing that my family is truly enjoying the cleanest fruits and vegetables, and getting the most benefit from them without any harmful substances.”
-K. Ochoa
“SunSmile® Fruit & Vegetable Rinse is one of my favorite Sunrider® products. I want to ensure my family and I are eating only the purest foods. Rinsing with water alone is not enough. As part of our healthy lifestyle, my wife and I have made SunSmile® Fruit & Vegetable Rinse part of our daily routine.”
R. Fiore

206 Reasons Why Your Bone Health Is Important

Our 206 bones give our bodies structure and make movement possible. But for postmenopausal women in particular, natural changes in bone physiology can put freedom of movement at risk.

Bone Is Continually Changing
Contrary to popular notion, bone is a dynamic, living tissue that is constantly undergoing a process called remodeling.
Remodeling consists of two major phases:
  • Bone resorption, or breakdown. Bone cells called osteoclasts remove old and damaged bone tissue.
  • Bone formation. Other bone cells called osteoblasts and osteocytes create a new bone matrix (the web-like, micro-architecture of bone), and use calcium, phosphorus, and other minerals to harden the matrix.
The Menopausal Effect
From birth until about age 40, bone remodeling occurs in relative balance, building bones that are hard, dense, and strong. But menopause marks a major turning point in a woman's bone physiology. The steady decline of estrogen combined with a subtle increase of inflammatory markers after menopause may contribute to an increase in bone resorption. Over time, this can make the bone matrix more and more fragile, resulting in an increased risk of fracture.

Why Mineral Supplements May Not Be Enough
Calcium, phosphorus, and other trace minerals are essential for maintaining bone density and hardness. But even the highest quality minerals may not work as well on a weak bone matrix.

A Natural Approach to Healthy Bone Remodeling
Standard approaches to osteoporosis prevention focus on achieving and maintaining peak bone mass or density. But thanks to new scientific developments, we now know that a combination of the following nutrients may target the quality of the bone matrix in women with low estrogen levels:
  • Berberine and reduced iso-alpha acids derived from hops — key botanicals shown to beneficially influence cellular processes involved in bone health
  • Vitamin K — a key nutrient for the metabolism of bone proteins crucial to bone integrity
  • Vitamin D — an important nutrient associated with healthy bone formation and bone mineralization
In a recent clinical study of postmenopausal women with low estrogen, these nutrients, together with a Mediterranean-style, low-glycemic-load diet and regular exercise were shown to improve several important indicators of healthy bone remodeling more than the same diet and exercise alone. Furthermore, patients taking these nutrients did not report serious adverse effects associated with some conventional approaches.
